All of your Divi 4 content and third-party legacy modules will still work in backwards compatibility mode. Keep in mind this mode loads the Divi 4 framework, so you won’t see the full performance and stability improvements of Divi 5.
Before upgrading, we strongly recommend testing the update on a staging site first. This lets you confirm that your design, modules, and plugins behave as expected before making changes to your live website.
When you’re ready to move forward, create a complete backup of your website, including both your database and files. That way, if anything goes wrong, you can restore your site quickly.
The new Readiness System in Divi 5 will also help by showing which modules are fully compatible and which are still considered “legacy,” making it clear what’s ready and what may need attention.
Divi 5 is faster, more stable, and more reliable than Divi 4, but taking these precautions ensures a smooth transition.

We built Divi 5 to be backward-compatible with Divi 4 plugins, such as modules from the Divi Marketplace. Until creators update their plugins for Divi 5, legacy plugins will continue to function using the legacy Divi 4 framework.
However, loading the Divi 4 framework comes at a performance cost. The orange warning informs you that a plugin you are using is tapping into the legacy framework, and the page is not benefiting from Divi's performance improvements.
It's not an error. It is just there for informational purposes.
