The Divi AI Agent is billed differently from the rest of Divi AI. Text, image, and code generation outside the Agent are part of your regular Divi AI subscription, but the AI Agent itself draws on a separate balance because of how it works - it sends requests to AI models on your behalf, and those models charge per request.
This article explains why the Agent is metered separately, what your included balance covers, and how to keep an eye on it. For a broader look at what the Agent can do, see The Divi AI Agent in Divi 5.
Why the Agent Is Metered
Every request the Agent sends to an AI model has a real cost behind it, and that cost varies by model. Here's how it works:
Divi connects to AI models through OpenRouter, which gives it access to hundreds of models from different AI companies.
Each AI company sets the price of its own models. Elegant Themes doesn't control those prices and adds only a small percentage on top to cover transaction and business costs.
Because prices vary by model and by request size, Divi AI's text, image, and code generation outside the Agent stays a flat part of your subscription, while the Agent's per-request costs are drawn from a balance instead.
Your $5 Monthly Balance
Every Divi AI subscription includes a $5 balance for Agent usage. A few things to know about how it works:
It resets to $5 on your subscription's renewal date, not on the first of the calendar month. If your subscription renews on the 14th, your balance tops back up on the 14th.
Unused balance does not roll over from one month to the next.
The balance is tied to your Elegant Themes account, not to any one website. It's shared across every site you use the Agent on.
Topping Up Your AI Wallet
Once your monthly balance is used up, you can add funds without leaving the builder.
Click the Wallet icon
in the top right of AI Agent's chat window. When asked, connect to your Elegant Themes account.
Once logged in, the Wallet page will be displayed. Choose from any of the predefined amounts or use the Top-Up Amount field and add the amount you want to use.
Click the Complete Payment button.
You can also manage your balance directly from the AI Wallet page in your Elegant Themes account.
Important Note: Purchased funds are only used after your monthly balance runs out, so topping up never causes you to skip past balance you already have coming to you.
What Makes a Request Cost More
How fast your balance goes down depends on three things:
The model. More capable models cost more per request than lighter, faster ones. How to Choose an AI Model for the Divi AI Agent covers the automatic tiers and how to pick one yourself.
The reasoning effort. Asking a model to think longer and harder about a request typically costs more than leaving it on a lower effort setting.
The size of the job. A request that touches one module costs less than one that rewrites a whole page, simply because there's more for the model to read and act on.
Making Your Balance Go Further
A few habits keep your balance lasting longer without changing what you can ask the Agent to do:
Ask questions in Ask mode. If you just want an answer or an explanation, Ask mode skips the planning and action-taking that Build mode does, so it's a lighter request. For more details, check the Ask Mode and Build Mode in the Divi AI Agent article.
Scope requests to one section instead of a whole page. The more the Agent has to read and consider, the more a request costs. For more details, check the How to Add Context to the Divi AI Agent article.
Pick a cheaper model for simple sweeps. A typo fix, an alt-text pass, or any other straightforward, repetitive task doesn't need your most capable model.
Start a fresh chat instead of growing one indefinitely. A long-running conversation carries more history into every new request. For more details, check the How to Manage Conversations in the Divi AI Agent covers when to start over.
Save repeated work as commands. If you find yourself typing the same request more than once, save it so you're not re-explaining it and re-processing it every time. For more details, check the How to Use Commands in the Divi AI Agent article.
Signing In and Out
Using the Agent requires signing in with your Elegant Themes account.
Signing In
When opening the AI Agent for the first time, it will ask you to log in to your Elegant Themes account. After a successful login, and if your account has the Divi AI subscription active, you can start using the Divi AI Agent right away.
Your monthly balance isn't added automatically the moment your subscription starts - it lands in your AI Wallet the first time you sign in to the Agent inside the Divi 5 Builder. If your balance reads $0 the first time you check, signing in to the Agent is the step that credits it.
Note: The 30-day refund policy applies to AI Wallet purchases, but only to funds you haven't used yet. Balance you've already spent through the Agent isn't refundable.
Logging out
If you are a freelancer or an agency, logging out after a website is ready to be handed over to your client is highly recommended. This way, you can ensure that your AI Agents credit is not being used by your clients. To log out, click the logout icon
from the AI Agent chat window (top right corner).
If your clients want to have access to the Divi AI Agent, they will need to purchase their own Divi AI subscription.
