How to Convert a Global Element to a Non-Global Element in Divi 5

Learn how to convert a global section, row, or module to non-global in Divi 5 for independent customization.

Updated today

Global elements (sections, rows, and modules) stay in sync across every page they appear on. When you edit one, all instances update.

Sometimes you need to break that link so you can customize a single instance without affecting the rest. Converting a global element to non-global does exactly that.

Use the Right-Click Contextual Menu

Global elements are visually distinct in the Visual Builder - they appear with a green highlight, making them easy to spot on the page.

โš ๏ธŽ Notes:

  • Disabling global only affects that specific instance on that page. Other instances of the global element on other pages remain global and stay linked to each other.

  • You cannot disable an element's global status directly from the Divi Library. You need to do it on the page where the element is placed.

  • To make the element global again, right-click it and choose Save To Library. In the save modal, check the Save as Global option, then click the Add to Library button.
