Getting Started with Divi 5 Public Alpha

Learn how to download and install Divi 5 Public Alpha and explore its improved performance and new interface.

Updated over 3 months ago

The Divi 5 Public Alpha offers early access to the redesigned visual builder and major performance upgrades, paving the way for the official release. Completely rebuilt, Divi 5 introduces a more flexible architecture and advanced design tools, delivering a faster and more powerful experience.

In this article, we'll guide you through the installation process and highlight the key updates, offering a glimpse of what's to come.

The New Divi 5 Builder Interface

Divi 5 introduces a new Visual Builder interface designed to give you the freedom to customize it. It is easier to navigate and doesn't get in your way when building your Divi website.

The new Divi 5 interface gives you more control over the builder's layout.

  • All the interface animations from Divi 4 were removed to make the interactivity with the Divi 5 Builder's interface much more snappier and fluid.

  • The new Visual Builder Interface's footprint was reduced to give your designs more room to breathe.

  • You can dock, undock, or combine panels into tabbed windows. If you prefer to have all windows closed and one floating settings panel like Divi 4, that's an option too.

  • With click-mode as the default interaction mode, a smaller layers panel you can always leave open, and with the new breadcrumbs system in each settings panel, navigating the page is easier than ever. You won't struggle to find or click on anything you want to edit.

⚠️ Important Notes:

  • We do not recommend using Divi 5 Public Alpha on a live production site. Instead, test it in a staging environment or on a local host installation. As Divi 5 is still under active development, you may experience bugs and incomplete features.

  • During the Public Alpha Phase, third-party products from the Divi Marketplace and some Divi 4 features, like WooCommerce modules, won't be fully supported.

  • Unsupported modules migrated with the Divi 5 Migrator System will run in compatibility mode, reducing performance on pages that use these modules or third-party plugins.

  2. Go to Appearance → Themes

  3. Click on the Add New Theme button (located at the top)

  4. Click on the Upload Theme button

Build in Divi 5 from scratch

After Divi 5 Public Alpha is installed, you can start using it by creating your first page.

After the Divi 5 Public Alpha is installed, you need to migrate your existing Divi 4 content to the new Divi 5 format.

The Divi 5 Migrator System allows you to analyze your entire Divi 4 site quickly, provide a comprehensive report, and help you migrate it to Divi 5 (Public Alpha).

It is essential to mention that none of your Divi 4 content (posts, pages, theme builder template, etc.) will be lost, and you can roll back to Divi 4 with a click of a button at any point.

⚠️ Important Note: After Divi 5 Public Alpha is installed, do not open any existing pages, posts, projects, etc., because their content (layout) will be converted to the Divi 5 format without any possibility of rolling it back to Divi 4 format. Instead, use the Divi 5 Migrator.

We also recommend that you take a full backup of your website if you need to maintain your content and make sure you can easily restore a previous version.
