How to Troubleshoot the Divi Builder Disappearing

Learn how to troubleshoot the disappearance of the Divi Builder inside posts, pages or custom post types.

Updated over 3 months ago

If you are facing issues with Divi Builder not being available when editing a single post, page, or custom post type, there are a few things that you can check to ensure everything is set up correctly.

Note: Ensure that you are using the latest Divi theme version. You can learn more about the Divi version by checking the How to Find Which Divi Version is Installed on Your Website article.

The following article will guide you through the entire process, and it covers two most common possibilities:

  1. The Divi Builder is inaccessible on newly created posts, pages, or custom posts

  2. The Divi Builder is inaccessible on existing posts, pages, or custom posts

The Divi Builder is inaccessible on newly created posts, pages, or custom posts

If the Divi Builder is not visible when you create a new post, page, or custom post type, ensure that the Builder is enabled for them by going to the WordPress Dashboard → Divi → Theme Options → Builder → Post Type Integration tab and making sure that Posts, Pages, and other custom Post Types are enabled.

Divi Builder - Post Type Integration

In the screenshot above, the Divi Builder has been disabled for the Post and Pages. That means enabling the Divi Builder will not be possible when we create a new Post or a new Page.

To enable it, ensure that both options are enabled.

The Divi Builder is inaccessible on existing posts, pages, or custom posts.

The most common reasons for not being able to access the Divi Builder on posts/pages that were already published could be:

  • Plugin conflict

  • Child Theme conflict

  • Corrupt Divi Theme

  • The default WordPress editor is used

  • Server issues

Check for plugin(s) conflict and child theme conflict

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard → Divi → Support Center

  2. Enable the Safe Mode

    Divi - Safe Mode

Notes:

  • The Safe Mode will temporarily disable any plugins, child themes, and any form of customization (custom CSS Code or custom JavaScript code).

  • Those will be deactivated only for the current WordPress user who is logged in, your visitors will not be affected.

If the issue doesn't exist while the Safe mode is enabled and you can access the Divi Builder on posts and pages, go back to the WordPress Dashboard → Divi → Support Center and deactivate the Safe Mode and check the following steps:

Check for Plugin(s) conflict:

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard → Plugins

  2. Click on the Active tab

  3. Select all plugins and deactivate them

With all the plugins deactivated, check if the issue exists. If everything works as it should, the issue is caused by one or more plugins. To identify which plugin or plugins is at fault, follow these steps:

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard → Plugins

  2. Click on the Recently Active tab

  3. Enable one plugin at a time

  4. After the plugin is enabled, check if the issue is fixed or not

  5. Reapt the first three steps until all plugins are activated again or the issue is happening

Check for a Child Theme conflict:

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard → Appearance → Themes

  2. Enable the Divi parent theme

  3. Check if the issue is fixed

Reinstall Divi theme

  1. From your Elegant Themes account, download a fresh copy of Divi Theme

  2. Go to WordPress Dashboard → Appearance → Themes

  3. Click on the Add New Theme button

  4. Click on the Upload theme button

  5. Choose the zip file downloaded at step 1

  6. Click on the Install Now button

  7. Click on Replace active with uploaded button

Server Configurations:

Sometimes, the server on which WordPress is installed could prevent The Divi Builder from loading properly.

This case resembles the one when a plugin is conflicting.

You can inspect that page and check for status code errors in the console.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the page

  2. From the contextual menu, choose Inspect

  3. Choose the Console tab in the browser's Developer Tools

If you see the 500 Server error, it means something on the server is preventing the builder from loading, and the hosting company should be able to check the server logs and fix that.
