The Extra Category Builder

Using the category builder, you can create custom layouts for each section of posts.

Updated over a week ago

Overview

First, if you aren't yet familiar with the Divi Builder, you'll want to review the Extra's Theme documentation before continuing with this one.

We've harnessed our Divi Builder's power to create something you won't find in any other theme: a Category Builder.

Extra's Category Builder gives you control over your index pages like never before, allowing you to build your homepage and category pages completely from the ground up.

This lets you break away from the standard, prebuilt category pages so that you can create unique experiences on a per-category basis.

Creating A New Category Layout

Creating a Category Layout is done much in the same way as you would create a new page or post.

  1. Navigate to Extra โ†’ Category Builder in your WordPress Dashboard. You will then be presented with a list of your existing Category Layouts.

  2. Click the Add New button that appears at the top of the page, next to the title.

In the left column, you will notice a box labeled Categories, a box labeled Layout Usage and a box labeled Extra Settings.

They allow you to configure when and where your layout will be used on the front end of your website and if/how the sidebar should be shown.

You can select specific categories on your homepage, and/or you can make it the default layout for all index/archive pages throughout your site.
